JAMES HETFIELD Says LARS Was 'Completely Authentic' During DAVE MUSTAINE Therapy Session
January 26, 2005Launch Radio Networks is reporting that among the bonus scenes included in the just-released DVD version of the METALLICA documentary "Some Kind Of Monster" is an extended version of the encounter between drummer Lars Ulrich and MEGADETH's Dave Mustaine, who was kicked out of METALLICA in 1983. The meeting took place on September 13, 2001, at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in San Francisco, California, and was refereed by band therapist Phil Towle.
METALLICA frontman James Hetfield, who was in rehab at the time, said he found the encounter very insightful. "That's a really powerful scene, Lars and him," James said. "And it's really pretty revealing. I think that was the first time I really saw Lars being completely authentic. He didn't know what to do, which was great. And Dave, you know, still, it's amazing how much stuff he's carried around with him for so long. Well hopefully he can see through this mirror what he needs to see."
Among the other bonus material on the DVD are an expanded bass player auditions and footage from a live show with producer Bob Rock filling in on bass before the group hired Robert Trujillo.
METALLICA are planning to return to the studio this year to start working on a follow-up to 2003's "St. Anger".
